Bert Powell, MA

Bert graduated from the Masterson Institute’s post graduate training program in 1991 and has been in practice as a licensed mental health and family therapist for over 40 years. He is an International Advisor to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Attachment and Human Development and for 17 years was an adjunct professor in the graduate school of Counseling Psychology at Gonzaga University. Bert and his colleagues cocreated the Circle of Security have been recognized for their work with Washington State Governor’s “Child Abuse Prevention Award” and the Bowlby–Ainsworth Award for “The Development and Implementing the Circle of Security Attachment Intervention” presented by the New York Attachment Consortium at the Society for Research in Child Development biennial conference in 2013.

Joe Coyne, MA Clin Psych, Circle of Security

Joe Coyne has dedicated over 30 years to applied developmental psychology, specializing in child and family psychology as well as adult psychotherapy, after earning his Master's in Clinical Psychology. His focus has been on understanding how early life experiences and parenting contribute to healthy developmental outcomes. Coyne has extensively trained in Behavioral Family Systems and Object-Relations to grasp family dynamics' generational effects.

Since the early 2000s, he has integrated attachment theory into modern treatment strategies for individuals across all ages, leading to his accreditation as a Circle of Security Intensive therapist and supervisor in 2010 and 2011. In Australia, he is recognized as a Clinical Psychologist and an Educational and Developmental Psychologist.

Starting in 2023, Coyne has expanded his efforts to training professionals in Australia on the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) program, enjoying the process of connecting practitioners to its model. He is currently a consultant and trainer for Circle of Security International and maintains a private practice.
