Meet the Faculty

Steven K. Reed, PhD

Dr. Reed has been a clinical psychologist in private practice since 1986 in Bellevue, Washington, USA.  He has been on the faculty of the Masterson Institute since 1990 teaching and supervising other therapists about personality disorders.  Dr. Reed has taught at three graduate schools and contributed to several journals and publications.  His areas of expertise include; personality disorders, complex trauma, dream analysis and spirituality. Dr. Reed is married with three grown children and two grandchildren.

Kathryn A. Furst, PhD

Dr. Furst has been a clinical psychologist in private practice since 1984 in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is on the faculty of the West Coast Masterson Institute. She has taught psychological assessment in several area graduate programs. Dr. Furst's practice involves supervision, psychotherapy, teaching, and assessment. Her specialities include treatment of Disorders of the Self, personality disorders, eating disorders, sexual abuse, and psychodiagnostic.

Jerry S. Katz, LCSW

Jerry S. Katz is a graduate of the Masterson Institute (now IMI) Postgraduate Training Program in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and has been a faculty member and supervisor there since 2001.  He has contributed chapters (on schizoid personality disorder and borderline personality disorder) for books edited by James Masterson and has published on issues concerning therapeutic neutrality. Mr. Katz has presented on these topics in Cape Town, Pretoria, Istanbul and Vancouver. He maintains a private practice in New York City.

Lize Ligthelm, MA Clin Psych

"Lize Ligthelm is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Auckland, New Zealand. She has worked in both public and private settings in South Africa and New Zealand. Her private practice is focused on long-term psychotherapy, clinical supervision (individual and groups) and offering training to other therapists hoping to deepen their understanding in disorders of self. Her areas of interest are treatment of disorders of self, complex and sexual trauma, somatic symptoms, the therapeutic relationship and supervision". 

Caroline Andrew, MA Psych

Caroline Andrew is a psychologist in private practice in Sydney since 1989. She has taught this body of work through the Westmead Master of Psychotherapy Program, the UNSW Master of Psychotherapy Program and the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. Her work was supervised by Dr. Masterson and she continues a long supervisory relationship with Dr. Klein. She has contributed articles to several publications and presented a paper at the recent World Conference of Psychotherapy.

Jonathan Keeley, Ph.D

Jonathan Keeley, Ph.D. (C.Psych) is an APA-licensed clinical psychologist. Has been a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Miami School of Medicine, Jackson Memorial Hospital (Miami, Florida), McGill University, The Montreal General Hospital, and the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society (IPA), (Quebec English branch). Dr Keeley is a Masterson Institute (West Coast) graduate and a faculty member/  supervisor in the International Masterson Institute (Australia).

He has been working at the McGill University Health Centre for the past twenty years. He is a current supervising member in the Department of Clinical Psychology, at McGill University, Montreal, and works in private practice.
